What They Do and What They Offer

CDNIS After-School Activities & Holiday Programmes are activity-based enrichment options offered by the Canadian International School of Hong Kong (CDNIS), an IB World international school located in Aberdeen, Hong Kong that serves learners from nursery through Grade 12. The school’s extended activities are designed to support holistic development outside the regular curriculum, engaging children and teens in academic, artistic, physical and creative pursuits throughout the school year and holiday periods.

Purpose and Educational Focus

The core purpose of the CDNIS After-School and Holiday Programmes is to provide learners with diverse opportunities to explore interests, discover new skills and develop strengths beyond the classroom environment. These programmes are tailored to encourage personal growth, confidence, teamwork and a love of learning through engaging activities rather than formal instruction. Participation helps students build competencies in areas such as academics, arts, STEAM, sports and more, while also offering fun, social experiences that complement school learning.

Who Can Attend

CDNIS After-School Activities and Holiday Programmes are available to:

  • CDNIS students of all ages (from early years through high school), and
  • Non-CDNIS learners from the wider community.

Programmes are offered for children and teens from about age 2 through age 18, with activities structured according to age, interest and ability so that participants receive age-appropriate challenges and support.

After-School Activities (ASA)

After-School Activities (ASA) at CDNIS run in terms throughout the school year, providing ongoing engagement in structured sessions beyond the regular school day. These activities include a broad array of options such as:

  • Academic enrichment (e.g., language support, learning clubs)
  • Arts and performance (e.g., music, drama, visual arts)
  • STEAM programmes (science, technology, engineering, arts and maths)
  • Sports and movement activities, including team sports and individual skill development
  • Special interest clubs tailored to specific hobbies or talents

ASAs are designed to help learners deepen skills, discover new interests and interact socially in smaller groups with focused content, nurturing both enthusiasm and competence.

Holiday & Summer Programmes

CDNIS also offers holiday programmes during school breaks — including fall mid-term, Christmas and summer holiday periods — that allow students to continue learning and exploring when regular classes are not in session. The 2025 summer programme runs from June 22 to July 31, 2026. Holiday and summer activities encompass a wide range of interests and skills, such as:

  • Academics and study support
  • Arts and creative projects
  • STEAM and science exploration
  • Multi-activity group sessions
  • Sports and physical development

According to community descriptions, camps may include hands-on activities from building robots and woodworking to dragon boating, rugby, fencing and “cheernastics”, giving learners lots of ways to engage both cognitively and physically during the break. These holiday programmes help students stay active, broaden interests and maintain learning momentum in a stimulating, supportive environment.

Learning and Personal Development Outcomes

Participation in CDNIS After-School and Holiday activities supports a range of developmental outcomes, including:

  • Skill growth and interest discovery through a broad menu of creative, academic and physical activities.
  • Confidence and self-expression fostered by performance, arts and leadership opportunities.
  • Teamwork and social skills developed through group tasks, team sports and club interactions.
  • Problem-solving and creativity nurtured via STEAM challenges and exploratory projects.

These programmes complement the broader educational philosophy of CDNIS, which promotes a holistic approach to learner growth that includes academic excellence as well as personal, social and physical development.

Environment and Delivery

Activities are facilitated on the CDNIS campus and led by trained instructors, including teachers, specialists and coaches experienced in working with children and teens. The setting provides a safe, inclusive and engaging environment where learners can participate with peers from a range of backgrounds, fostering community, collaboration and sustained engagement beyond traditional classroom time
